Climbing in El Chorro

Just arrived in Hamburg from El Chorro in Spain and back to studies again. Starting the last year of university – hamdullah! This semester wont be too harsh luckily and I’ve got a lil free time. My climbing trip also was a big success, Tobis climbing lodge is a really nice place and the surrounding is just awesome for climbers. Thousands of routes in half an hour driving distance. The first part of the trip I was giving a course with the HI-KGB and tought teachers how to handle their students on class trips to the rocks. After the course I had a couple of chances to push my own limit and to climb like hell hehe. Pushed it to a 8- onsight and a 8 red point which is quite a good progress. We also did other fun stuff like waterlining, deep water solo and cliff diving. Also the Spanish attitude is really cool and we spend some nice nights at bars around El Chorro enjoying a beer or two, while listening to live music.

So the next days are more or less reserverd to get the new semester started, but then the fun stuff kicks in again. Surf weekend with my dudes, Nitro Circus, Seed Concert, Tote Hosen concert and a wellness weekend with my family. Pretty stoked of all these nice stuff ahead. Also check out my gallery section for the newest pics from the trip.

Fall storms and climbing

It has been quite a time since my last post as I was really busy getting all my university exams done which was a big time sink. And right after the last exam was over we had some big fall storms kicking in. One of the best time of the year where it was possible to kite at least 4 days a week and in between some sick Bigdays. These days on the water helped me a lot to do some nice progression landing more and more tricks in variations, like to blind and wrapped and I finally managed to land some more Blind Judges, Sbend passes and other stuff thats really on top of my level.

For the next 10 days I will be off to El Chorro in Spain for a freecliming trip – assisting in a outdoor course to each some guys how to teach rock climbing and of course climbing for my own on this nice rock! So you probably wont read anything for the next two weeks here, but stay tuned as I will do a big post with pics and maybe a small vid about the whole trip when I am back. Stay safe and rip hard!

Video Feature by Rebel.TV

Finally something new here. really need to apologize, my university is keeping me ver very busy for some more days. It is exam time and I am basically learning every day. Anyways rebel.TV finished my feature the last days. Pretty cool stuff I think. If you like it hit share please.

Slack ‘n’ Wake

Hey there guys, the last time was a little bit quiet again as I was pretty busy getting my university stuff. As we have many seminars and presentations at the moment it is really a lot of work – but anyways still got enough time for some serious indoor climbing, wakeboarding and other funsport acticities like slacklining.

Finally my new Elephant Slackline (25m, 35mm) arrived and it is really an awesome toy. I am trying really hard to get better in slacking as it is quite challanging for my coordinative skills. Walkig the 25 m is a pretty hard task! So I went to Raceburg last weekend for an intense 3h slack sesh directly at the lake. You can’t imagine how exhausting it get’s to just walk on a line!

Another highlight of the last days was our Wakeboard session, with the surfdudes, yesterday. Pushing it to the max, working a lot on my slider and kicker skills was my main goal, but also refining my railey and backroll to improve the style. Feeling pretty sore now after a 6 hours wake session – but anyway it feels good hehe.

And as always doing the normal training in the climbing gym, pushing hard towards the upper 8. UIAA grade. Making very nice progress at the moment and now starting to enhance my training with adding at least one boulder day per week to get more strength and a superior technique. Also took over the youth and adult training and coaching in the “Nordwandhalle” for the next 2 months.

So so far for the last time guys. Need to get back to work now and wish you all a nice time. I hope for some wind the next days. So see you at the wall or on the water! Also appended some photos of the last days.

DAV Trainer C at Frankenjura

Imagine: Wake up, eat some simple but delicious breakfast, pack your climbing stuff, get into your trekking boots and finally start the day with hiking to the climbing crags. And this for one amazing week. This is what I was doing for the last week in Bavaria, Frankenjura, every day. I had my DAV Trainer C course in one of the best areas for climbing in Europe. Never saw so many rocks in such a little distance.

Except climbing we also had a lot of theory and training exercises to enhance our trainer abilities. From the climbing side I managed to push my onsight level nearly to 8- and I learned a lot for my technique. Of course I also got to know loads of new methods and tricks on how to be a better trainer to push your climbing even more if you are in one of my courses. The best thing is that I nearly got all Trainer B qualifications done and it will be the aim for next year to finish this course.

Crazy Mai

What a busy month, the things really start to rush at the moment. After I had the Wet n Wire last week it was time for some more serious this weekend. I made the KLEVER freeclimbing trainer course, which will be an addition to my existing climbing trainer licenses and gave me some new input on how to be a better trainer. The course took place at the Nordwandhalle in Wilhelmsburg, in which I will also work from now on. The gym is pretty new and one of the biggest I’ve seen. Really amazing routes and boulders – and the food in the refugium is a dream.

While I had the course there were also loads of possibilities to climb, which I – you ca guess it – used as much as possible to push my limits further. And so I did: On sighted a 8 and redpointed a 9 which is pretty amazing for me. As I am not the best boulderer I finally started to go more into it to have some intense training in addition to my route climbing training, which will help me a lot in hard routes.

So that much for the past, now let’s look into the future: In two days the famous surffestival in Pelzerhaken will start. I really hope to see you all there. We also have some wind and perfect sunshine during the festival, this will be the criteria for a nice event and sick parties. I will work as always at the Naish presentation, the kite school and as a barkeeper at the Pelzerhaken Buttle Bar (which is brand new and is a little surprise for the festival – you should definately check it out!). During the days I will also compete in some SUP, Skimboard and Longboard contest and try to get on the podium. During the nights I am up fore some sick ass surfer parties as every year. So make sure you don’t miss it!

The weekend after my Trainer C course in freeclimbing finally takes places in south Germany. One week on the rocks getting new input in how to teach you guys on the rocks and climbing the skin off my hands hehe.
So take care and come around for a beer at the surffestival.

Sicily Climbing Trip video

Heya, finally finished the editing of the video material from our trip to Sicily (read more below). We had less footage than expected, but I think the outcome is quite watchable anyways. I hope you like it and as always feedback is much appreciated. Credits for filming go to Rainer alias Lampi and Hartmut.

I also gave a small interview to kitelife24 in the last days. If you are interested in Kitesurfing, and being a instructor checkout the interview here! I also booked a flight to Egypt or the time from 04.03.2011 to 22.03.2011 to see my friends again and get in shape for this season. I hope I can also present some new pics and vids afterwards.

Urban apes climbing gym status

After I got back from Sicily I had the cool opportunity to set some routes in the new Urban Apes climbing gym. Unfortunately I just managed to set up two, as I didn’t had that much time. Anyways the walls look pretty awesome – nearly the half of the gym is already done. Many super cool routes from UIAA grade 3 to 10. As you know the official opening day is the 02.03.2012 with some important people of sport and politics – just mark this day red in your calender guys. Lübeck will be a much nicer place with this facility!

If you seek for more and up-to-date information check out the facebook page of urban apes and the climbing gym. It would be really cool if you spread the news about the opening and the gym around facebook and your friends. As more you support as bigger it will grow. I attached some pictures below for you, just a few impressions.

This year in a nutshell

Soon an awesome year will be over – to make it short: It was a blast!! Ok that was not very informative, here is my small review of the year:

The nice part of this year started with my vacation in Egypt this spring. I had some intense hours on the water training and a cool time with old friends. Next event was the surffestival in Pelzerhaken. Funny days full of work!

The biggest piece of the year full of freeclimbing, kite and work-days. One outstanding trip was my climbing tour to the “Wild Emperor”, where I made my first alpine experiences. At the end of the summer we had the Kite&SUP festival at our station, loads of work but also met many new people. Just afterwards I went on my backpacking trip through Greece and from there I got right off to Egypt with Kim and Nino. This was the first time on the water with my new equipment from Naish – pretty cool stuff. my main focus during the winter is mostly on indoor training in freeclimbing, boxing and gymtraining- even tho if there is some wind I also go for a freeride session.

My aims this year are more than 100 percent fulfilled – in freeclimbing my goal was to score a 8- (UIAA), which I made last week finally. And in kiting a aimed for the handlepass. Easily done during my second Egypt trip, with scoring a Blind Judge and a Back to Blind. Therefore I am really happy with this years season – also got a couple of new sponsors and this fancy new website.

So 2012 is coming in big steps and I am really looking forward to it. Already planned loads of stuff: The year starts off with a one week climbing trip to Sicile with some friends, doing some sport and alpine climbing. Then I already booked a Trainer C training course in “Franken Jura”, the dates of the surffestivals are fixed and in spring I will be off to Egypt for sure. It is also planned to participate in the Kitesurf Trophy next year.

Ok guys enough for this year. I am wishing you all a smooth New Years eve and just the best for 2012. Special thanks to all my sponsors, friends and family.
