Rock climbing and waterlining

Finally found some time for a little entry here, had some very busy days behind me. Basicly I have a lot to do learning for my exams at the university. Got a lot of courses that want a lot of attention this semester haha. Anyways found some time to get on the rock of the Ith last week. We had four days on the camping ground in Lüerdissen. During the day climbing in the shade, as the sun was really burning like hell and afterwards getting to the nearby lake, spanning a waterline and having some dinner. To put it in a nutshell a intense weekend, which pushed my climbing a lot as I managed to do some of the classics over there.

After I got back I spend some days in Lübeck, learning and doing some fun stuff like spanning some 25m waterlines at a public lake. Still now pretty stoked about the feeling when you finish the never ending walk above the water. Got some people dropping in and watching the spectacle. We also spanned a 10m line for beginners to get the people into the addictive world of slack lining.

And in the next days we got some fun events for you. I will be in Pelzerhaken for the next two days working behind the bar for the Surfers Afterglow party – Ready to serve you some delicious Cuba Libre hehe and on Sunday there will be a SUP charity contest called Stand Up 4 Kids. I hope to see you all there guys, now have to get back to learning.

DAV Trainer C at Frankenjura

Imagine: Wake up, eat some simple but delicious breakfast, pack your climbing stuff, get into your trekking boots and finally start the day with hiking to the climbing crags. And this for one amazing week. This is what I was doing for the last week in Bavaria, Frankenjura, every day. I had my DAV Trainer C course in one of the best areas for climbing in Europe. Never saw so many rocks in such a little distance.

Except climbing we also had a lot of theory and training exercises to enhance our trainer abilities. From the climbing side I managed to push my onsight level nearly to 8- and I learned a lot for my technique. Of course I also got to know loads of new methods and tricks on how to be a better trainer to push your climbing even more if you are in one of my courses. The best thing is that I nearly got all Trainer B qualifications done and it will be the aim for next year to finish this course.

One month Urbanapes climbing gym

Now it has been more than one month ago, that the Urbanapes climbing gym in Luebeck opened it’s gates. The crazy March is over and things get slowly back to normal.
The first time was as far as I can see, a quite successful time for Luebeck’s first real climbing facility. Every time I drop in, to give some courses or just to climb for myself, I see many people climbing out or just hanging out in the lounge. The lounge itself is a little highlight, as it is build in the old forge and all the tools were left inside – therefore you really have a unique atmosphere.

The routes go from 3- to 10- and for every climbing level you can find supreme movement problems – if you want try my routes, they are of course the best haha. Opening times are from 11 to 23 o’clock, so you have loads of time to go for a after-work climbing session. If you are not yet a climber, you can make the official DAV (German Alpine Club) license in a 3 hours course.

For more info visit http://urbanapes.de/ or write me a mail if you want to have a course with me at a special date or time. Because if you are more than 4 people we can fix a new date freely – so gather up your friends and let’s go for some climbing. If you are less people you can also write me a message and I will try to fill the course up with other guys. Prices and everything else are the same as stated on the website.

As a little appetizer I append some pictures of the opening, which was a really nice day, first having press there and doing the formal stuff, later there was a big student climbing contests organized by Hi-KGB and Axel. Right afterwards the open climbing time started, where everybody were able to try out how it feels to be at the wall. This went on till 22 o’clock when we finally started to get some beer and pizza to start the after show party. What a awesome day.

Wintertraining

The season 2012 is ahead and as I got some big plans, like competing in the Kitesurf Trophy and the North German Climbing comps, for this year I have a lot of training ahead. I am pretty happy to have 3 weeks time for Kitesurfing in Egypt this March, but the real strength and power builds up in the winter months. As I am in exam phase I got a lot of time at the moment and I have the opportunity to make up my own schedule. My training schedule is pretty crowded at the mome, having around 10 units a week. The first pillar of my training is the endurance, which I build up in extensive jogging exercises – I try to run around 40km a week with around 10-12km/. As a little motivation I registered for a half marathon (21,5km) in April. My coldest session was in around -15°, where I had icicles in my face – see the picture below.

The second pillar is strength and power. This all happens in the gym. Specific training is my climbing training around 2-3 times a week trying to push it to UIAA 8/7a. Apart from that I goto my Box gym 2-3 times a week doing some intense workouts and lifting some weights – this gives me the ultimate power I need for the summer.

Something for the next days: I will present the Naish SUP Boards in cooperation with “Frosch Sportreisen” on the travel exhibition in Hamburg this weekend. So if you are interested in SUP or just wanna get some infos about traveling drop by.

Sicily Climbing Trip video

Heya, finally finished the editing of the video material from our trip to Sicily (read more below). We had less footage than expected, but I think the outcome is quite watchable anyways. I hope you like it and as always feedback is much appreciated. Credits for filming go to Rainer alias Lampi and Hartmut.

I also gave a small interview to kitelife24 in the last days. If you are interested in Kitesurfing, and being a instructor checkout the interview here! I also booked a flight to Egypt or the time from 04.03.2011 to 22.03.2011 to see my friends again and get in shape for this season. I hope I can also present some new pics and vids afterwards.

Urban apes climbing gym status

After I got back from Sicily I had the cool opportunity to set some routes in the new Urban Apes climbing gym. Unfortunately I just managed to set up two, as I didn’t had that much time. Anyways the walls look pretty awesome – nearly the half of the gym is already done. Many super cool routes from UIAA grade 3 to 10. As you know the official opening day is the 02.03.2012 with some important people of sport and politics – just mark this day red in your calender guys. Lübeck will be a much nicer place with this facility!

If you seek for more and up-to-date information check out the facebook page of urban apes and the climbing gym. It would be really cool if you spread the news about the opening and the gym around facebook and your friends. As more you support as bigger it will grow. I attached some pictures below for you, just a few impressions.

Big storm, big plans!

Hey guys, it has been a bit quiet around here the las week. We had absolutely NO wind and the temperatures dropped below zero during the night. Sucks! I was focusing on freeclimbing and getting in shape with boxing exercises. And of course fixing some plans for the next season: After new years eve, I will head over to Sicily for a week for some alpine freeclimbing in multi pitch routes. In my semester holidays again some action in Egypt and in June I got my trainer C in cooperation with the DAV fixed – new qualification ahead. And as if this is not enough I will also go to a climbing trip to Norway with some good friends – yay! This helps me to survive the winter.

Anyway let us look in the near future – if you check the forecasts you can see some decent BIG storm coming to the German costs. Of course we will be out – pushing it to the max. If we get a photographer with us, you can see some big loops next week (promise!). So let’s hope nothing changes and we will have a perfect (but cold) day on the water.

Stay safe and rock!
