Urbanapes climbing marathon

As promised I will publish a small review of the climbing marathon competition at the urban apes climbing gym in Lübeck. It basically was a endurance competition, were you had six hours time to climb as many routes as possible. Each route gave 13 points (average height) plus the UIAA grade. Toprope and lead had no influence on the points. Also important is that it was a team competition and both had to climb every route.

I was competing with Lorenz Langfeld as the team “No Rest No Fun” and we managed to climb 89 routes, which means nearly 1300m. Our aim was to crack the 100 routes but that was not possible in just six hours. Anyways we crushed at the competition and made, with over 12 routes more than the second, the first place. As this competition was about fun anyways the biggest pleasure was to see the 30 teams in action on the walls. It was such a nice atmosphere and everybody was really psyched!

Afterwards everybody stayed for a video session, self cooked soup and a couple of beers. This is what I call a nice climbing event for everybody. Well organized and done by the staff of urban apes and because of all participating teams a full success. Let’s hope for more events of this type! You can check the recent pictures from Jörg (vertical image) out or visit the urban apes facebook page for rankings, pictures and a video. I will also post some pictures of the competition soon!

Winter activities

Hey guys it has been quite a while since my last post, I really apologize to those who read this blog. It has been a really intense and busy time during the winter. I will give you a brief overview what happened since the last post:

It started with a insane week with two concerts and the Nitro Circus show. I’ve been to the german bands “Tote Hosen” and Seed, first making some really good rock and the second deluxe reggae. It was a big big party at the stadion. The week after was the Nitro Circus, thanks again to Red Bull who sponsored the tickets and to Wet n Wire! Such a sick show Travis Pastrana and his guys pushed themselves to the max on the BMX and Motocross bikes – nice to see other crazy people in action. Gave me some inspiration!

The next episode in my winter was a 26km run around the lake of Ratzeburg. Finished as the 156./ 1700 with round about two hours. Pretty stoked about this result as I am not the best runner. Anyways it was such a nice event with so many sportive people pushing themselves. The event had some perfect vibes and was a pleasure to participate. The next days after the wind and the temperatures where a last time quite ok and I went for two days kiting in Pelzerhaken. Enjoyed to be on the board again and worked a lot on my tricks to blind, the SBend pass and my Blind Judge.

The time after this was characterized by the university. Having a lot of projects and homework keeping me really busy. I tried to stay fit with boxing and training in the climbing gym, for my next trip after christmas. And this was really one of the highlights this winter. I took the plane with Lorenz to the JoSoTo camp in Turkey, near Antalya. This climbing camp is a little bit remote in the mountains and has a lot of rock in 5 to 20 minutes walking distance. It was really one of the best places i’ve been for climbing. During the day around 20 to 25 degree and nice weather and during the night minus grades. Too bad we slept in a tent hehe. Anyways I was able to push my limits in rock climbing a lot. Onsighted a 8-/8 and was checking out 9- routes. Gonna crack this grade this year for sure. I will append some pictures of the rock to this post so you can check them out. In the gallery section you will find some more. Just a little recommendation: You should definitely check this place out when you are in climbing. It’s really worth the travel and just the camp itself is a nice pace with awesome people!

Ok so far so good – this was my winter for now. At the moment I am dominated by university as the exams come closer and many projects need to be done. But I’ve got a climbing contest on Saturday and I am planning my one year trip after I finished studies in August. So you will be able to read another post regarding this stuff pretty soon so stay tuned!
