Kite and SUP Festival 2012 Review

Oh yea, what a weekend in Pelzerhaken on the second Kite&SUP Festival. The weekend kicked off on Friday with some nice west wind for the 12 in the morning. Had a nice 3 hour kite session before starting to work at the Naish presentation tent at noon. The rest of the day the weather was quite unstable but quite good for Stand up paddling on the flat water. The opening party this day was rather relaxed, as the most people were saving their power for the next days.

The Saturday started with nice weather and good conditions to test the new SUP Boards and of course for the SUP challenge contest that crowned the german SUP champions. Later during the day the weather turned better and better and the wind was picking up to more than 5 Bft. Pretty good wind for our big kites. We had the 2013 Fly and Park on the water and saw pretty stoked faces after the people had them in their hands – got some nice feedback. The most amazing thing with the conditions was that we had flatwater and low wind for SUPing at the presentation area and good wind conditions at the kite area – pretty unique conditions for a festival! The bummer this day was for sure the party – warming up with some live music by King and later getting some fire on the dancefloor by DL Äläkz and DJ Marc. You found me behind the bar mixing some sick cocktails for you guys. I saw everybody enjoying the nice vibes of this surfer beach party under the stars.

Las but not least we had the Sunday with perfect weather and no wind which as not a big problem, as the most people were kind of dead anyways. The last two party nights had their tribute and you saw a lot of sunglassed people hanging on the beach drinking Red Bull and enjoying the relaxed attitude of a nice summer day at the beach with like-minded people. The day was completely in the sign of testing SUP’s and as a little tip for this season you should have an eye on the Naish One 12,6 inflatable SUP – this brand new toy will crush this year! Taking the inflatables to a new level!

Enough talking now, I will add some pictures from my mobile that show some impressions. If you missed this event make sure you join the next

Urban apes climbing gym status

After I got back from Sicily I had the cool opportunity to set some routes in the new Urban Apes climbing gym. Unfortunately I just managed to set up two, as I didn’t had that much time. Anyways the walls look pretty awesome – nearly the half of the gym is already done. Many super cool routes from UIAA grade 3 to 10. As you know the official opening day is the 02.03.2012 with some important people of sport and politics – just mark this day red in your calender guys. Lübeck will be a much nicer place with this facility!

If you seek for more and up-to-date information check out the facebook page of urban apes and the climbing gym. It would be really cool if you spread the news about the opening and the gym around facebook and your friends. As more you support as bigger it will grow. I attached some pictures below for you, just a few impressions.

Climbing trip to Sicily

Heya guys, after some time being off the internet, I am back with a couple of nice story’s. After a wild New Years party I left Germany for nine days to checkout the climbing in Sicily, Italy. I left on the 01.02.1012 – and it was quite a bad start, as I had wake up at 01:30 in the night to take the nightbus to Hamburg airport from where I catched the train to Nuernberg, from there I flew to Catania. There I hopped on the bus to Palermo. Rainer picked me up at around 17:00 with our rental car – and you guess it I was totally wasted – one day after New Years eve.

However next day was quite ok. Little bit of everything – sun and rain. We went to the nearest climbing crag and went in the overhanging section. Even in pouring rain this section consisting of steep 40m limestone walls is perfectly climbable. The stone is razor sharp and can easily cut through clothes … or skin. The day went quite smooth doing some stuff around 6a to 6c+. After our hard climbing days we always made some nice dinner mostly consisting of fresh and cheap fish, vegetables and a lot of nice red wine.

Me and my climbing buddys, Rainer alias Lampi, Hartmut and Piotr had a nice time on the rocks. Click on more to read the full story!

This year in a nutshell

Soon an awesome year will be over – to make it short: It was a blast!! Ok that was not very informative, here is my small review of the year:

The nice part of this year started with my vacation in Egypt this spring. I had some intense hours on the water training and a cool time with old friends. Next event was the surffestival in Pelzerhaken. Funny days full of work!

The biggest piece of the year full of freeclimbing, kite and work-days. One outstanding trip was my climbing tour to the “Wild Emperor”, where I made my first alpine experiences. At the end of the summer we had the Kite&SUP festival at our station, loads of work but also met many new people. Just afterwards I went on my backpacking trip through Greece and from there I got right off to Egypt with Kim and Nino. This was the first time on the water with my new equipment from Naish – pretty cool stuff. my main focus during the winter is mostly on indoor training in freeclimbing, boxing and gymtraining- even tho if there is some wind I also go for a freeride session.

My aims this year are more than 100 percent fulfilled – in freeclimbing my goal was to score a 8- (UIAA), which I made last week finally. And in kiting a aimed for the handlepass. Easily done during my second Egypt trip, with scoring a Blind Judge and a Back to Blind. Therefore I am really happy with this years season – also got a couple of new sponsors and this fancy new website.

So 2012 is coming in big steps and I am really looking forward to it. Already planned loads of stuff: The year starts off with a one week climbing trip to Sicile with some friends, doing some sport and alpine climbing. Then I already booked a Trainer C training course in “Franken Jura”, the dates of the surffestivals are fixed and in spring I will be off to Egypt for sure. It is also planned to participate in the Kitesurf Trophy next year.

Ok guys enough for this year. I am wishing you all a smooth New Years eve and just the best for 2012. Special thanks to all my sponsors, friends and family.

Climbing Gym in Lübeck

Hey guys, just wanna show you a really cool new project in my hometown Lübeck. My boss, where I am working as a freeclimbing instructor, is right now building a fancy new climbing gym in one of Lübecks traditional gas facilities. Therefore you have kind of history and a awesome atmosphere mixed together with state of the art indoor climbing walls. Even a big boulder area, slackline corner, coffee lounge and  sauna is included. Hell yeah, that’s what was missing in Lübeck. If you want more information just check out http://www.kletterzentrum-luebeck.de – It will open somehow in the first months of 2012.

You would do me and us a big favor if you like these two Facebook pages and maybe share it: Lübeck Climbing gym and Urbanapes. Because I think such good and valuable project deserves some support.

New web page

After a long time struggling with my old, quite amateur like, website the new web page is finally live. This was possible with the help of my new sponsor PiXELHEIMAT.

These guys have a really nice, young and innovative team – a guarantee for trendy websites on the pulse of time. It was a pleasure to work with them, as they are also Skateboarders, Snowboarders or Kitesurfers. So if you are in need of something new – concerning web pages – you know were to go.

My old website will be taken off from the net so make sure to bookmark this one. The good news for my international friends is, that this one will be completely in English.
I really hope you like it and as always I am happy to hear some advices how to change things to the better.
