Climbing trip to Norway

Just arrived home from Norway and still so stoked about the landscape and nature. If you stand in these big valleys you can still feel the power of the ice masses that were forging the scenery. It polished granite faces up to one kilometer hight into the hills, that were just waiting to get climbed by us.

And this is what out trip was about – having just a rope and some safety tools as our equipment and getting from bottom to top. We had unbelievable nice climbs, ranging from 40 to 700 meters. The style to climb this blank granite faces is to rely on pure friction to carefully pace up the wall. This was totally new for me as I mostly use power over technique to solve climbing problems, In Norway it was all about superior footwork and body balance.

We were living in a nice small lodge on a camping ground at a fast going river in northern Setesdal. A nice base to reach some of the best climbs in the valley. The weather was mostly stable and we had the chance to get 5 of 6 days on the walls – the weather is not always like this.

So back to Germany there is a bunch of things to do. Next weekend I will do a fun Bouldercup at the Nordwandhalle called “Elbmoves” and we will have a slack line event at the same place. All this is combined with the new Reel Rock Tour, which will show us the newest climbing movies. Sounds like a lot of fun! Hope to see you over there. I will also announce some big and nice news the next days so make sure to look in here every now and then. And in the end I am praying for wind, we really need some more this year!

It’s Spring time!

It has been quite a time since my last post, because I was really busy with my exams after I came back from Egypt. Quite tough to have 3 in a week after the long time of relaxing! But the learning paid out – anyways we had some decent wind the last weeks for some action on the water. We had all kinds of conditions – really strong wind and some more quiet days for the big kites. But one thing turned out very fast: Germany is not Egypt – the wind is a lot more gusty and the cold weather makes things a lot harder. Many tricks I was doing safe there are not working at the moment, which is very disappointing. Therefore I had to make a really hard decision: I will not participate in the first two tour stops of the trophy as I cannot get enough training because of the university. I will focus on training to join the last stop on Fehmarn.

In Egypt I made some good progress like landing some Backmobes, Blind Judges, 313, Double S-Bends to Blind and so on, but here the things don’t go as I like – therefore this is my logical consequence. Sooo this was the bad part of my news, now back to better things: The Spring is coming in big steps and with it more outdoor activities. I have some really cool climbing trips ahead (Frankenjura, Norway, Spain), bought a slackline finally and as I am bound to Hamburg at the moment trying to train a lot for the next climbing competition!

Also wanna remind everybody of the surffestival in Pelzerhaken next month – this will be a big party and hangout event for everybody. Don’t miss it! In my Gallery section you will find a little flavor of my last trip to Egypt – finally had some time to go through 28GB of pics and videos. Some more will come soon. And on Sunday I will have my first halfmarathon in Hamburg. Registration is still open – who ever is interested shoot me a message!
