RedBull is going nuts again! After the great Rising High wakeboard event in Hamburg the next big project is the so called Coast2Coast race from Niobe on Fehmarn to Denmark and back. Round about 40km of open water action on the rough baltic sea! Around 200 racers will battle it out to win a great trip to Hawaii with my boss Robby Naish.

As I already got some pre infos I was eagerly waiting for the release of this event. It will be so awesome to race with so many kiters on my home spots. As the registration is free and open for everyone you are highly welcome to join us! I hope to see ya all there guys.

Kitesurftrophy Damp 2013

Last weekend the first tour stop of the German Kitesurftrophy (KST) took place in Damp at the Baltic Sea. Unluckily the wind was really bad during the event. The only day with enough wind for freestyle was Sunday and even there the kitesize to ride was between 11 and 15 meters. To make it even worse the wind was slightly offshore and gusty.

Anyways I was pretty stoked as this was my first bigger contest and everything was quite new to me. I got to know many nice people and learned a lot about competing in kitesurfing. When it was time for my first heat I was very unlucky as a line of my kite broke right after the start and I was forced to the beach.

Check out the images below and stay tuned for a little event video I am just about to cut.

Knee injury

Just had my first injury, after being without any serious stuff during all the time I was pushing my limits on the water and rock. Two weeks ago I had another photo-session with Niels Jende in Niendorf. The session was somehow cursed: First I had the wrong kite size and on my first SBend I was torn onto the beach. The second jump was a massive unhooked kite loop. The kite looped clearly under my height and was only half way through when I landed. Unfortunately I landed directly in a wave face… I immediately felt something snapping and of course a lot of pain.

So right away into the hospital, xray and first checks. Result: Nothing broken but maybe some ligaments damaged. First impression: Shit! Next day I went to a specialist and got a MRT and the big relief: Just a partially damaged inner ligament. I can probably be back on the water in mid May. This sounded a lot better. Still have to walk around on crunches the next weeks but then I will be back on the water!!!

Flatwater paradise: Wulfen

Winter is finally over in Germany and the temperatures are rising again. I had again some good sessions on the baltic sea to prepare for the upcoming season. An outstanding one was on flatwater paradise Wulfen. Niels Jende came there with me and took some nice pictures. Stable eastern wind, flat water, empty spot – the perfect session. You can find a lot more pictures in my gallery section. Also got some bad news: Damaged my knee a little bit. Butnothing too serious – it will just knock me out for 4 more weeks. Inshalla! Gonna wrap this story in my next post!

Kite and SUP Festival 2012 Review

Oh yea, what a weekend in Pelzerhaken on the second Kite&SUP Festival. The weekend kicked off on Friday with some nice west wind for the 12 in the morning. Had a nice 3 hour kite session before starting to work at the Naish presentation tent at noon. The rest of the day the weather was quite unstable but quite good for Stand up paddling on the flat water. The opening party this day was rather relaxed, as the most people were saving their power for the next days.

The Saturday started with nice weather and good conditions to test the new SUP Boards and of course for the SUP challenge contest that crowned the german SUP champions. Later during the day the weather turned better and better and the wind was picking up to more than 5 Bft. Pretty good wind for our big kites. We had the 2013 Fly and Park on the water and saw pretty stoked faces after the people had them in their hands – got some nice feedback. The most amazing thing with the conditions was that we had flatwater and low wind for SUPing at the presentation area and good wind conditions at the kite area – pretty unique conditions for a festival! The bummer this day was for sure the party – warming up with some live music by King and later getting some fire on the dancefloor by DL Äläkz and DJ Marc. You found me behind the bar mixing some sick cocktails for you guys. I saw everybody enjoying the nice vibes of this surfer beach party under the stars.

Las but not least we had the Sunday with perfect weather and no wind which as not a big problem, as the most people were kind of dead anyways. The last two party nights had their tribute and you saw a lot of sunglassed people hanging on the beach drinking Red Bull and enjoying the relaxed attitude of a nice summer day at the beach with like-minded people. The day was completely in the sign of testing SUP’s and as a little tip for this season you should have an eye on the Naish One 12,6 inflatable SUP – this brand new toy will crush this year! Taking the inflatables to a new level!

Enough talking now, I will add some pictures from my mobile that show some impressions. If you missed this event make sure you join the next

Surffestival 2012

What the heck is going on with the weather? I think the summer finally arrived and fuels us up with nice vibes! The motto of the 2012 Jever surffestival could have been: Wind, Sun and Party. Because this is what we had. The event started with some quite good western wind and gave us the opportunity to have a sportive start in the weekend. The next days where only light winds but a lot of sun – everybody went out doing some SUP sessions or was just hanging out at the beach.

I competed in the ION SUP Challenge and made the 4th place at the singles and the 3rd at the relay race. Quite good after those party nights and without any training this year so far. About the parties is not a lot to say – they were amazing! Surfers just know how to have a good time. I was working two days in our “ButtelBoat” as a bar keeper and afterwards right into the party tent and the last day was really special as we had our Chiemsee/Naish party with our own DJ (Alexander “DJ Äläkz” Kuck). He made an awesome job and the crowd was dancing at our station.

To put it all in a nutshell, it was a exhausting but perfect weekend and I would like to thank everybody for making this event this unique. I am now looking forward to the Kite and SUP Festival in September and of course to next year.

Wet n Wire 2012 Videos

Hey guys just wanna post some videos of the latest contest. In a few hours or tomorrow I will also post a detailed review and a lot of pictures. So stay tuned and check the site every now and then.

It’s Spring time!

It has been quite a time since my last post, because I was really busy with my exams after I came back from Egypt. Quite tough to have 3 in a week after the long time of relaxing! But the learning paid out – anyways we had some decent wind the last weeks for some action on the water. We had all kinds of conditions – really strong wind and some more quiet days for the big kites. But one thing turned out very fast: Germany is not Egypt – the wind is a lot more gusty and the cold weather makes things a lot harder. Many tricks I was doing safe there are not working at the moment, which is very disappointing. Therefore I had to make a really hard decision: I will not participate in the first two tour stops of the trophy as I cannot get enough training because of the university. I will focus on training to join the last stop on Fehmarn.

In Egypt I made some good progress like landing some Backmobes, Blind Judges, 313, Double S-Bends to Blind and so on, but here the things don’t go as I like – therefore this is my logical consequence. Sooo this was the bad part of my news, now back to better things: The Spring is coming in big steps and with it more outdoor activities. I have some really cool climbing trips ahead (Frankenjura, Norway, Spain), bought a slackline finally and as I am bound to Hamburg at the moment trying to train a lot for the next climbing competition!

Also wanna remind everybody of the surffestival in Pelzerhaken next month – this will be a big party and hangout event for everybody. Don’t miss it! In my Gallery section you will find a little flavor of my last trip to Egypt – finally had some time to go through 28GB of pics and videos. Some more will come soon. And on Sunday I will have my first halfmarathon in Hamburg. Registration is still open – who ever is interested shoot me a message!

Climbing contest and winter kiting

Finally I managed to spare some time for a new entry. Pretty busy days – stuck learning my ass off for the most important exams of this year. Long days behind my computer learning stuff I probably never need again.

Anyways – can’t stay completely without action, so I went out on a really chilly (1° water, 2° air) kitesession at Fehmarn with my brother Finn. Attached a snapshot of a railey below. Just too cold to pull some nice moves. Felt good to be on the water again and soon it will be warm enough to start the season officially.

The second thing are the northern german climbing competitions in which I took part. We had to climb an UIAA 8 and 9- … pretty sick stuff for me. My personal goal was in the beginning to not be the last, but I managed to do the 24. place (of 40.), which is just insane! Gonna train harder now and crush the next time. Below You see some pictures of the contest.

So there are just a few days left till I go off to Egypt again. Starting the training session 2012 and visiting old friends. I also have a little surprise – just stay tuned and visit my site every now and then. If you are from Germany please sign this petition to save our spots. It is very important for all kiters to create a lobby like this to keep the spots open:  >Here!<
