Fall storms and climbing

It has been quite a time since my last post as I was really busy getting all my university exams done which was a big time sink. And right after the last exam was over we had some big fall storms kicking in. One of the best time of the year where it was possible to kite at least 4 days a week and in between some sick Bigdays. These days on the water helped me a lot to do some nice progression landing more and more tricks in variations, like to blind and wrapped and I finally managed to land some more Blind Judges, Sbend passes and other stuff thats really on top of my level.

For the next 10 days I will be off to El Chorro in Spain for a freecliming trip – assisting in a outdoor course to each some guys how to teach rock climbing and of course climbing for my own on this nice rock! So you probably wont read anything for the next two weeks here, but stay tuned as I will do a big post with pics and maybe a small vid about the whole trip when I am back. Stay safe and rip hard!

Rumble at the climbing gym

As you read before this weekend was the first Elbmoves boulder cup and the summer party at the Nordwandhalle climbing gym in southern Hamburg. We started Saturday with the bouldering contest – 80 new boulders in diverse difficulties. There were insane 150 climbers competing at the contest and we also had some pro guys there. The hardest 20 boulders you made in a qualification time of 5 hours were counted in your score.

I managed to get on the 24. place, a pretty good achievement, as I am not really a boulderer and didn’t train that much. The finals were sick, seeing these good guys solving the unsolvable problems – had a competitive contest atmosphere that pushed everybody a lot.

On Sunday we started of with some lead climbing on the new outdoor walls. Nice, long climbs in the sun, feels much better than inside. Later a professional Highliner was performing inside and giving Slackline workshops for walking and jumping on the line. Nice input to work on your own slack skills. To round up the climbing day we finished our sore bodies with a last intense boulder session.

After being totally destroyed the Globetrotter Reel Rock Film Tour took place at the gym. We watched some sick climbing and slack movies and I really enjoyed the atmosphere with some many people of the same attitude. This is how a summer party of a climbing gym should be. Nice work of the organization, big thanks to everybody, who was involved.

As a little side notice, we made a lot of new pictures, thanks to Neele Kunka for taking them out of the wall, I added them to my climbing album and on Facebook. If you are interested you should have a look.

Slack ‘n’ Wake

Hey there guys, the last time was a little bit quiet again as I was pretty busy getting my university stuff. As we have many seminars and presentations at the moment it is really a lot of work – but anyways still got enough time for some serious indoor climbing, wakeboarding and other funsport acticities like slacklining.

Finally my new Elephant Slackline (25m, 35mm) arrived and it is really an awesome toy. I am trying really hard to get better in slacking as it is quite challanging for my coordinative skills. Walkig the 25 m is a pretty hard task! So I went to Raceburg last weekend for an intense 3h slack sesh directly at the lake. You can’t imagine how exhausting it get’s to just walk on a line!

Another highlight of the last days was our Wakeboard session, with the surfdudes, yesterday. Pushing it to the max, working a lot on my slider and kicker skills was my main goal, but also refining my railey and backroll to improve the style. Feeling pretty sore now after a 6 hours wake session – but anyway it feels good hehe.

And as always doing the normal training in the climbing gym, pushing hard towards the upper 8. UIAA grade. Making very nice progress at the moment and now starting to enhance my training with adding at least one boulder day per week to get more strength and a superior technique. Also took over the youth and adult training and coaching in the “Nordwandhalle” for the next 2 months.

So so far for the last time guys. Need to get back to work now and wish you all a nice time. I hope for some wind the next days. So see you at the wall or on the water! Also appended some photos of the last days.

Season 2012 opening in Egypt

Finally found some time to write this post. The last days were very busy with visiting friends, kiting, making photos and of course relaxing a lil bit from the exam stress. In the begining the wind was quite low and we had time to visit the pyramids – I can just advice everybody to see this impressive structures once! We had a awesome hotel just at the entrence, out of our windows we could look in the Sphinx’s eyes.

When we arrived back to Hurghada the wind came back. Riding two nice days at the station of Tommy Friedl, my former working place, made a good start in a from now on windy holiday. After this  we settled over to Kitegarden, a new Kitehostel and station managed by Tanja and Wael. Nice people, a lot of wind and a cool spot – from our hotelroom to the water not more than 10 meter. Wael made a lot of nice pics and videos, I just need the time to get through the material. A spotreport will come soon, but I can really recommend this place!

The last days I was hanging out at Makadi Bay, while the wind is still getting stronger every day. In the evening hanging out with old friends having a shisha and a lot of fresh juice. Life is quite ok like this hehe. When I finally find some more time I will post more and try to find some more photo material.

Climbing contest and winter kiting

Finally I managed to spare some time for a new entry. Pretty busy days – stuck learning my ass off for the most important exams of this year. Long days behind my computer learning stuff I probably never need again.

Anyways – can’t stay completely without action, so I went out on a really chilly (1° water, 2° air) kitesession at Fehmarn with my brother Finn. Attached a snapshot of a railey below. Just too cold to pull some nice moves. Felt good to be on the water again and soon it will be warm enough to start the season officially.

The second thing are the northern german climbing competitions in which I took part. We had to climb an UIAA 8 and 9- … pretty sick stuff for me. My personal goal was in the beginning to not be the last, but I managed to do the 24. place (of 40.), which is just insane! Gonna train harder now and crush the next time. Below You see some pictures of the contest.

So there are just a few days left till I go off to Egypt again. Starting the training session 2012 and visiting old friends. I also have a little surprise – just stay tuned and visit my site every now and then. If you are from Germany please sign this petition to save our spots. It is very important for all kiters to create a lobby like this to keep the spots open:  >Here!<

Wintertraining

The season 2012 is ahead and as I got some big plans, like competing in the Kitesurf Trophy and the North German Climbing comps, for this year I have a lot of training ahead. I am pretty happy to have 3 weeks time for Kitesurfing in Egypt this March, but the real strength and power builds up in the winter months. As I am in exam phase I got a lot of time at the moment and I have the opportunity to make up my own schedule. My training schedule is pretty crowded at the mome, having around 10 units a week. The first pillar of my training is the endurance, which I build up in extensive jogging exercises – I try to run around 40km a week with around 10-12km/. As a little motivation I registered for a half marathon (21,5km) in April. My coldest session was in around -15°, where I had icicles in my face – see the picture below.

The second pillar is strength and power. This all happens in the gym. Specific training is my climbing training around 2-3 times a week trying to push it to UIAA 8/7a. Apart from that I goto my Box gym 2-3 times a week doing some intense workouts and lifting some weights – this gives me the ultimate power I need for the summer.

Something for the next days: I will present the Naish SUP Boards in cooperation with “Frosch Sportreisen” on the travel exhibition in Hamburg this weekend. So if you are interested in SUP or just wanna get some infos about traveling drop by.

This year in a nutshell

Soon an awesome year will be over – to make it short: It was a blast!! Ok that was not very informative, here is my small review of the year:

The nice part of this year started with my vacation in Egypt this spring. I had some intense hours on the water training and a cool time with old friends. Next event was the surffestival in Pelzerhaken. Funny days full of work!

The biggest piece of the year full of freeclimbing, kite and work-days. One outstanding trip was my climbing tour to the “Wild Emperor”, where I made my first alpine experiences. At the end of the summer we had the Kite&SUP festival at our station, loads of work but also met many new people. Just afterwards I went on my backpacking trip through Greece and from there I got right off to Egypt with Kim and Nino. This was the first time on the water with my new equipment from Naish – pretty cool stuff. my main focus during the winter is mostly on indoor training in freeclimbing, boxing and gymtraining- even tho if there is some wind I also go for a freeride session.

My aims this year are more than 100 percent fulfilled – in freeclimbing my goal was to score a 8- (UIAA), which I made last week finally. And in kiting a aimed for the handlepass. Easily done during my second Egypt trip, with scoring a Blind Judge and a Back to Blind. Therefore I am really happy with this years season – also got a couple of new sponsors and this fancy new website.

So 2012 is coming in big steps and I am really looking forward to it. Already planned loads of stuff: The year starts off with a one week climbing trip to Sicile with some friends, doing some sport and alpine climbing. Then I already booked a Trainer C training course in “Franken Jura”, the dates of the surffestivals are fixed and in spring I will be off to Egypt for sure. It is also planned to participate in the Kitesurf Trophy next year.

Ok guys enough for this year. I am wishing you all a smooth New Years eve and just the best for 2012. Special thanks to all my sponsors, friends and family.

The days get shorter …

Hey there guys just came back from a windy weekend. The Saturday session was pretty epic – big winds for huge jumps and sick loops.I had a blast on the water with 6 windsurfers. Don’t know where all the kiters have been. The conditions where quite nice for Pelzerhaken – little bit overpowered with my 7, a nice breaking wave and flatwater. To put it in a nutshell: Just a cool day and not too cold. Anyways Sunday was really shitty – when we rode to the beach a crazy storm appeared with 10 degree temperature drop, lightning and ice rain. The wind was very unstable and gusty. Therefore we decided to get back home in the warm.

I think the season will be officially over for me, as the winter now really starts. It gets a lot colder and starts snowing these days. Therefore I will start my winter training: Indoor freeclimbing, boxing and training in the gym to start well trained in the season 2012. If I look at this year I have to say it was quite nice – many days of wind and a lot of progression for me. So let’s see what this year has left for us.
