Beachsportfestival Fehmarn

This summer in Germany is one of the best summers we had since a long time. Quite a few windy days and extremely good weather. This was also the case last weekend were I was on the Beachsportfestival on Fehmarn. The whole event was about a big SUP testival, the german slackline championships and a stop of the Superflavour German SUP Challenge. I was there with our inflatable Naish boards and had a good time talking to happy testers, customers and interested people.

As the SUP Challange took place I got some time off from work to participate. Surprisingly I managed to crush my opponents and made a clear win on the course race in the mens fitness class. I was super stoked to win this event and even got a wildcard for the SUP Worldcup in Hamburg. Let’s see what I can do there with some really good paddlers.

The next upcoming event will be Standup4Kids next weekend. Would be cool to see you there supporting this charity event. So if you got some time come around for some action or a chat!

Wakeboarding and RBRH

As every year it gets a little bit more quiet on my page, as exams are coming closer and I have to do a lot of things for the university. Luckily this will be my last semester as I am finishing my Bachelor thesis as we speak! So gonna be free for some time soon!

Anyways last week I had great conditions on the water with good friends. I had two incredible days on my favorite island Fehmarn. Finally I felt comfortable enough to go for unhooked kiteloops again. My knee is holding perfectly – hamdullah!

This weekend was also pretty stuffed, starting with a great RedBull party on Saturday – thanks for the invitation again! On Sunday – quite puzzled hehe – I had the chance to hit the cable again. Grinding some sliders, rocking the kickers and practicing my latest tricks (Blind Judge and Backmobe). I appended some pictures at the end of the article.

The next and last stop of the weekend was the RedBull Rising High. Sick action of international pro Wakeboarders, who were getting BIG on this incredible kicker. It was really a unique event with 15000 spectators in the middle of Hamburg. Big kudos to RedBull for making this happen! Enough of the past – check the forecast guys it’s looking great! Time for some action and also gonna produce some videos and pictures soon so stay tuned and rip hard!

Waterlining in Lübeck

The summer finally reached Germany. And as every year with good temperatures the wind, which makes us watersport addicts so happy, is vanishing. Anyways there are many other things one can do even if there is no wind at all. For example Stand Up Paddling, Freeclimbing, Wakeboarding or Slacklining. And this is what we did this weekend!

I gathered some friends and met at a local lake in Lübeck. We placed a grill, got three slacklines up on the land and strained one over the lake. It was 25m of pure joy to walk this great line and if you fail the refreshing water welcomes you. We even had some great musicians dropping in and enjoyed great life music while slacking, talking and having a cool beer.

As the last time I was filming a little bit with my new Rollei Bullet HD and there will be a slack movie pretty soon – so stay tuned and lets hope for some wind soon! Photos are courtesy of Stev Dumröse!

Knee update: Recovery

It has been over four weeks till I hurt my knee on that crash while kiting. As the days pass by luckily it gets better and better everyday. I got rid of the crunches and got a nice new orthesis in which I can walk again and do some reha sport. The only good thing about this whole injury is that I can finally give my body some rest he really needed! I was always pushing a little bit too much and forget about recovery. The other good thing is that I am now forced into the gym – boring weightlifting is the only sport I am was able for the last weeks. Anyway it is always good to build up some basic strength and work on the misbalances a little bit.

The sun also returned in Germany and I had some great days chilling with good friends in the sun, having some barbecues or just getting in the kayak for a paddle session. Pretty mallow!

However I am very keen to hit the water again! The doc says I will be able to kite again in two weeks – just in time for the first stop of the Trophy in Damp! I am very very happy about that fast recovery and really look forward to pushing it again this season!!! Stay tuned for some announcements and insider news about the surffestival in Pelzerhaken the next days. Now go out guys and enjoy this great weather. Aloha!

Flatwater paradise: Wulfen

Winter is finally over in Germany and the temperatures are rising again. I had again some good sessions on the baltic sea to prepare for the upcoming season. An outstanding one was on flatwater paradise Wulfen. Niels Jende came there with me and took some nice pictures. Stable eastern wind, flat water, empty spot – the perfect session. You can find a lot more pictures in my gallery section. Also got some bad news: Damaged my knee a little bit. Butnothing too serious – it will just knock me out for 4 more weeks. Inshalla! Gonna wrap this story in my next post!

Fuck winter, go kiting!

Welcome to another episode of my fuck winter series. This time I went out for some Kite sessions. The coldest was in -2 degree (feels like -15° with windchill). I had two great days with Josè and Niels, who took pictures. Friday we went out in Haffkrug enjoying a big incoming swell with strong eastern winds. It was perfect for using the waves as kickers for my tricks or just looping till the adrenalin was pumping.

Saturday the crew met again in Pelzerhaken. Enjoying the comfort of a warm shower while getting into the neoprene stuff. The water was empty and we had a lot of wind. Perfect conditions …. apart from the fucking coldness. I managed to land a lot of tricks I learned the end of last year, like Back To Blind, Blind Jugde, 313 and even some Back Mobes. This is a pretty nice start for the season and I am looking forward to the upcoming contests!

After these we had some more sessions, which where always the same: Strong eastern wind, very cold, sunny and empty spots. I actually managed to get 8 days on the water during the last two weeks. This is what I call a season kickstarter. Who needs Egypt or Capetown? Go out and train guys. The conditions are perfect!

The next episode will be about some SUP action so stay tuned! We will go for a little session around the old town of Lübeck as soon as the wind drops, until then you will find me shredding on the baltic sea. If you wanna join shoot me a message it is so empty on the water haha.

Rock climbing and waterlining

Finally found some time for a little entry here, had some very busy days behind me. Basicly I have a lot to do learning for my exams at the university. Got a lot of courses that want a lot of attention this semester haha. Anyways found some time to get on the rock of the Ith last week. We had four days on the camping ground in Lüerdissen. During the day climbing in the shade, as the sun was really burning like hell and afterwards getting to the nearby lake, spanning a waterline and having some dinner. To put it in a nutshell a intense weekend, which pushed my climbing a lot as I managed to do some of the classics over there.

After I got back I spend some days in Lübeck, learning and doing some fun stuff like spanning some 25m waterlines at a public lake. Still now pretty stoked about the feeling when you finish the never ending walk above the water. Got some people dropping in and watching the spectacle. We also spanned a 10m line for beginners to get the people into the addictive world of slack lining.

And in the next days we got some fun events for you. I will be in Pelzerhaken for the next two days working behind the bar for the Surfers Afterglow party – Ready to serve you some delicious Cuba Libre hehe and on Sunday there will be a SUP charity contest called Stand Up 4 Kids. I hope to see you all there guys, now have to get back to learning.

Wet n Wire 2012

There has been an awesome event on the sunny island of Fehmarn – it’s called Wet n Wire and combines a kite contest, a testival and nature conservancy. Because of low wind we riders had to be there for the skippers meeting at the crazy time of 7 in the morning. Just two hours sleep after Heidi’s funky birthday party. Anyways, we were standing there with sleepy eyes watching the wind and checking if we could go for the contest. After quite a time we decided to make it. The best decision ever! Nice stable wind for the 12, not enough for big airs thought but still enough for some decent freestyle.

I had the first heat of the day and really crushed! Haven’t been on the water since 3 weeks but anyways I was just in the flow and the most tricks went fine: F16 with handlepass, Sbend to blind pampam and so on. So I fought my way up to the first place and was lucky to win two Nitro Circus tickets for Hamburg.

After the action I prepared our Naish presentation material together with Swenja from Kitegirlsrock and had a relaxed afternoon explaining the guys our new material. It was really a pleasure to see this glowing in their eyes, when they came back from the water. Luckily we had a big RedBull truck around to supply us with energy haha. At night we finished this day with a delicious Italian dinner and went to Rappa Nui for the after show party.

As the wind was quite low the next day it was more or less chilling at the beach talking to the people and recovering from the day before (you should ask Dennis haha). So what else can I say I will append some pics to give you a little overview about the day. You should although check out the event videos in the video section – they filmed and edited from Julia from Rebel.TV big thanks for the great work. If you want to see the other action pics check them out in my gallery section or on facebook.

I am wishing you all a pleasant ride this weekend. Stay tuned as I am preparing a lot of new stories and a big page update soon. Rip it hard and ride safe!

It’s Spring time!

It has been quite a time since my last post, because I was really busy with my exams after I came back from Egypt. Quite tough to have 3 in a week after the long time of relaxing! But the learning paid out – anyways we had some decent wind the last weeks for some action on the water. We had all kinds of conditions – really strong wind and some more quiet days for the big kites. But one thing turned out very fast: Germany is not Egypt – the wind is a lot more gusty and the cold weather makes things a lot harder. Many tricks I was doing safe there are not working at the moment, which is very disappointing. Therefore I had to make a really hard decision: I will not participate in the first two tour stops of the trophy as I cannot get enough training because of the university. I will focus on training to join the last stop on Fehmarn.

In Egypt I made some good progress like landing some Backmobes, Blind Judges, 313, Double S-Bends to Blind and so on, but here the things don’t go as I like – therefore this is my logical consequence. Sooo this was the bad part of my news, now back to better things: The Spring is coming in big steps and with it more outdoor activities. I have some really cool climbing trips ahead (Frankenjura, Norway, Spain), bought a slackline finally and as I am bound to Hamburg at the moment trying to train a lot for the next climbing competition!

Also wanna remind everybody of the surffestival in Pelzerhaken next month – this will be a big party and hangout event for everybody. Don’t miss it! In my Gallery section you will find a little flavor of my last trip to Egypt – finally had some time to go through 28GB of pics and videos. Some more will come soon. And on Sunday I will have my first halfmarathon in Hamburg. Registration is still open – who ever is interested shoot me a message!

Season 2012 opening in Egypt

Finally found some time to write this post. The last days were very busy with visiting friends, kiting, making photos and of course relaxing a lil bit from the exam stress. In the begining the wind was quite low and we had time to visit the pyramids – I can just advice everybody to see this impressive structures once! We had a awesome hotel just at the entrence, out of our windows we could look in the Sphinx’s eyes.

When we arrived back to Hurghada the wind came back. Riding two nice days at the station of Tommy Friedl, my former working place, made a good start in a from now on windy holiday. After this  we settled over to Kitegarden, a new Kitehostel and station managed by Tanja and Wael. Nice people, a lot of wind and a cool spot – from our hotelroom to the water not more than 10 meter. Wael made a lot of nice pics and videos, I just need the time to get through the material. A spotreport will come soon, but I can really recommend this place!

The last days I was hanging out at Makadi Bay, while the wind is still getting stronger every day. In the evening hanging out with old friends having a shisha and a lot of fresh juice. Life is quite ok like this hehe. When I finally find some more time I will post more and try to find some more photo material.
